Jets assign Redmond to IceCaps

The Winnipeg Jets announced Wednesday that they have assigned defenseman Zach Redmond to the St. John’s IceCaps of the American Hockey League on a conditioning assignment.

Redmond, 24, played in eight games with the Jets this season collecting four points (1g, 3a) and 12 penalty minutes. The Traverse City, Mich., native played in his first NHL game on Jan. 31 in Florida and scored his first goal on Feb. 7 vs. Toronto.

He has been out of the lineup since Feb. 17 after sustaining a serious on-ice injury to his leg.

Redmond returns to St. John’s where he began this season, recording 17 points (8g, 9a) and 32 penalty minutes in 36 AHL games. In his AHL career, Redmond has collected 48 points (16g, 32a) and 65 penalty minutes in 108 games with the IceCaps, and represented St. John’s at the 2012 AHL All-Star Classic.

He was originally drafted by the Atlanta Thrashers in the seventh round, 184th overall, in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.
