Jets sign Jaffray, claim Peluso
The Winnipeg Jets, parent club of the AHL's St. John's IceCaps, have agreed to terms with forward Jason Jaffray on a new contract.
Jaffray, 31, has played in 27 games with the IceCaps so far this season. In that time, the left-winger has recorded a team-leading 20 points (six goals, 14 assists) and 21 penalty minutes. He has played in a career total 398 AHL games between Norfolk, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, Manitoba, Abbotsford and St. John’s for 315 career points (131 goals, 184 assists).
The Olds, Alta., native has a lengthy history with the Moose as he sits second on the former AHL team’s all-time scoring list with 235 points (96g, 139a) in 269 games played. He was named the team’s Most Valuable Player and Most Popular Player in the 2006-07 season when he led the Moose in scoring and goals with 81 points and 35 goals. He was named the winner of the team’s Unsung Hero Award in 2005-06.
Jaffray has appeared in 49 career NHL games between Vancouver, Calgary and Winnipeg. In that span he’s scored 11 points (4g, 7a) and 40 penalty minutes. His most successful season in the NHL was 2007-08 when he played in 19 games with the Canucks and collected six points (2g, 4a).
The Jets have also claimed right wing Anthony Peluso off waivers. Peluso was placed on waivers by the St. Louis Blues and will now report to the Jets.
Peluso, 23, has played in 36 games with the Peoria Rivermen of the American Hockey League so far this season. In that time, the North York, Ont., native has recorded 11 points (5g, 6a) and 58 penalty minutes.
He has played in 181 total AHL games, all with the Rivermen, for 29 career points (15g, 14a) and 376 career penalty minutes. He was originally drafted by the Blues in the sixth round, 160th overall, in the 2007 NHL Draft.
