Kolanos nabs honor with 11-point week

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. … The American Hockey League announced today that Abbotsford Heat left wing Krys Kolanos has been selected as the Reebok/AHL Player of the Week for the period ending Apr. 8, 2012.

Kolanos recorded 11 points and a plus-6 rating in four games last week, totaling six goals and five assists to help the Heat secure a berth in the 2012 Calder Cup Playoffs.

Kolanos began the week with a goal in Abbotsford’s 4-0 win over Rochester on Tuesday night, then notched a goal and two assists including setting up the winning goal in a come-from-behind 4-3 overtime victory over the Americans on Wednesday. Kolanos scored both Heat goals in a 2-1 victory at Charlotte on Saturday afternoon, and led the way with two goals and three assists – his second five-point game in two weeks – as Abbotsford clinched a playoff spot with an 8-2 win over the Checkers on Sunday.

Kolanos, who has 18 points (11-7) and a plus-12 rating during his current seven-game scoring streak, has totaled 30 goals and 31 assists for 61 points in 46 games for Abbotsford this year after missing the entire 2010-11 season due to injury. A former first-round draft choice by the Phoenix Coyotes, Kolanos also skated in 13 NHL games with Calgary in 2011-12, tallying one assist. The 11th-year pro and Calgary native has 136 goals and 127 assists for 263 points in 272 career AHL games, as well as 20 goals and 22 assists in 149 career NHL contests.

In recognition of his achievement, Kolanos will be presented with an etched crystal award prior to an upcoming Heat home game.
