Leafs hold off Sens at ACC

Kyle Wellwood and Harold Druken scored in the second period to lead St. John’s to a 4-2 win over Binghamton at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto on Wednesday night.

A crowd of 9,424 took in the game between the AHL affiliates of the provincial rivals from Toronto and Ottawa.

Jeremy Williams added a goal and an assist and Mikael Tellqvist made 32 saves for the Maple Leafs, who won for the 11th time in their last 13 games.

Pat Kavanagh and Grant Potulny scored for the Senators, while Billy Thompson stopped all 12 shots he faced in relief of Ray Emery (nine saves).

The teams meet again Friday night at the ACC.

Elsewhere on Wednesday: Jason Morgan scored 3:32 into the game and Michael Leighton made 21 saves as Norfolk defeated Bridgeport, 1-0… Marc-Andre Fleury made 31 saves for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton in a 3-2 shootout loss to Philadelphia, which won for the 18th time in its last 19 outings… Tom Lawson got his first shutout of the season with 28 saves in Hershey’s 3-0 win at Albany… Randall Gelech scored twice and Fredrik Sjostrom added a goal and two assists, netting the game-winner with 4:12 remaining as Utah defeated Chicago, 4-3.
