Leafs recall Hamilton, send Komisarek to Marlies

The Toronto Maple Leafs announced Thursday that defenseman Mike Komisarek has been assigned to the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League (AHL) and forward Ryan Hamilton has been recalled to the Maple Leafs.

Komisarek, 31, appeared in four games for the Maple Leafs in 2012-13, and has skated in 519 career NHL games with Toronto and Montreal over his 11 professional seasons.

A first-round draft choice (seventh overall) by the Canadiens in 2001, Komisarek was named to the AHL All-Rookie Team and helped the Hamilton Bulldogs reach the Calder Cup Finals in 2002-03. He has totaled eight goals, 36 assists and a plus-33 rating in 94 career AHL contests.

Hamilton, 27, played in one game for the Maple Leafs earlier this season (Jan. 31 vs. Washington) and two games in 2011-12. In 56 AHL games this season, the Marlies captain ranks third in the AHL in goals (30) and leads the league in shooting percentage (25.9 percent). He is also first on the Marlies in goals, points (48), power-play goals (seven) and shorthanded goals (three).

Hamilton has appeared in the last two AHL All-Star Classics and was named the most valuable player of the 2013 AHL All-Star Game in Providence.
