Leavitt earns weekly honor for Rampage debut

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. … The American Hockey League announced today that San Antonio Rampage center Alex Leavitt has been named the CCM Vector/AHL Player of the Week for the period ending March 4, 2007.

In his first two games in a Rampage sweater, Leavitt tallied two goals, four assists and a plus-7 rating.

Acquired by San Antonio on loan from the Houston Aeros just prior to Thursday’s AHL Clear Day deadline, Leavitt made his Rampage debut on Saturday night and registered four assists and a plus-5 rating in a 5-1 victory over Iowa at the Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines. On Sunday, Leavitt scored both San Antonio goals in a 3-2 loss at Chicago.

In recognition of his achievement, Leavitt will be presented with an etched crystal award prior to an upcoming Rampage home game.

The 23-year-old Edmonton native is in his first season in the AHL, and has recorded four goals and 13 assists for 17 points in 25 games between Houston and San Antonio. In 2005-06, Leavitt won the ECHL scoring title with 91 points in 72 games, was named the league’s rookie of the year and helped Alaska capture the Kelly Cup championship.
