Lightning recall AHL’s leading goal scorer

The Tampa Bay Lightning have recalled forward Tyler Johnson from the Syracuse Crunch of the American Hockey League.

Johnson, 22, has played in 59 games this season with the Crunch, collecting a league-leading 32 goals and ranking second in the AHL with 58 points. He is also first among all AHL forwards with a plus-25 rating.

The 5-foot-9, 182-pound native of Spokane, Wash., ranked second in AHL rookie scoring last season with 68 points and added 14 points in 14 postseason games to help the Norfolk Admirals to the Calder Cup championship.

In 134 career AHL regular-season games, Johnson has totaled 63 goals and 63 assists for 126 points along with a plus-42 rating.

Johnson, who was originally signed by the Lightning as a free agent on March 7, 2011, represented the Crunch at the 2013 Dunkin’ Donuts AHL All-Star Classic and becomes the 28th participant to be recalled to the National Hockey League since the event took place Jan. 27-28.
