Maple Leafs ink Gamache

The Toronto Maple Leafs, parent club of the AHL’s Toronto Marlies, announced Monday that they have signed forward Simon Gamache to a two-year contract.

Gamache, a 26-year-old native of Thetford Mines, Que., has played in 289 career American Hockey League games with Chicago and Milwaukee, posting 261 points (107 goals, 154 assists). He won a Calder Cup championship with the Admirals in 2004 and returned to the Finals with Milwaukee in 2006, and was also named a First Team AHL All-Star in 2004-05 after finishing fifth in league scoring with 86 points.

In 2006-07, Gamache played 44 games for Bern of the Swiss Elite League this past season collecting a league-best 66 points (20 goals, 46 assists) along with 40 penalty minutes. Gamache maintained his scoring pace in the playoffs as he tied for the league lead with 16 points (seven goals, nine assists) in 16 playoff games.

Gamache has played in 37 career NHL games for Atlanta, Nashville and St. Louis, registering four goals and five assists for nine points.
