Marlies add O’Reilly for stretch run

The Buffalo Sabres have reassigned forward Cal O’Reilly to the AHL’s Toronto Marlies, the team announced today.

O’Reilly, who was in his second season serving as captain of the Rochester Americans, has nine goals and 33 assists for 42 points in 47 games this year, good for second on the club in scoring. He also has one assist in 11 NHL games with the Sabres.

Before joining the Buffalo organization, O’Reilly captained the Utica Comets to a trip to the Calder Cup Finals in 2014-15.

A 30-year-old Toronto native, O’Reilly has skated in 510 career AHL games with Rochester, Utica, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, Portland and Milwaukee, registering 89 goals and 353 assists for 442 points. He is a four-time AHL All-Star (2009, 2010, 2015, 2016).

Nashville’s fifth-round draft pick in 2005, O’Reilly has played 144 NHL games, registering 16 goals and 33 assists for 49 points with the Predators, Phoenix, Pittsburgh and Buffalo.
