Marlies sign Zigomanis, Acton, Yeo

The Toronto Marlies announced Monday that the team has signed forwards Mike Zigomanis and Will Acton as well as free agent defenseman Dylan Yeo to one-year contracts.

Zigomanis appeared in 68 regular-season games with the Marlies in 2011-12, scoring 19 goals and leading the team with 42 assists and 61 points while posting a plus-11 rating. The 6-foot, 200-pound Toronto native also had four goals and two assists in 13 Calder Cup Playoff games, helping the Marlies to the Western Conference championship.

The 31-year-old Zigomanis has played 459 career AHL games with the Marlies, San Antonio Rampage, Peoria Rivermen and Lowell Lock Monsters, registering 136 goals and 242 assists for 378 points. He has also picked up 21 goals and 19 assists for 40 points in 197 career NHL games with Toronto, Pittsburgh, Phoenix, St. Louis and Carolina, and was a member of the Penguins’ Stanley Cup championship team in 2009.

Acton, 25, played 69 regular-season games as a rookie with the Marlies last season, recording 16 points (seven goals, nine assists) with 58 penalty minutes. The 6-foot-2, 190-pound Stouffville, Ont., native also tallied one goal and one assist in 17 playoff games for Toronto.

Prior to signing with the Marlies last year, Acton played four seasons at Lake Superior State University.

Yeo, 26, skated in 48 AHL regular-season games with the Oklahoma City Barons in 2011-12, posting 13 points (five goals, eight assists) and 37 penalty minutes. The 5-foot-11, 210-pound Prince Albert, Sask., native also played in 14 playoff games with the Barons, registering eight points (one goal, seven assists).

Yeo has appeared in 102 career AHL games and 174 ECHL games, and was named the ECHL’s defenceman of the year while playing for Victoria in 2008-09.
