McCann named CCM/AHL Player of the Week

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. … The American Hockey League announced today that Springfield Thunderbirds forward Jared McCann has been selected as the CCM/AHL Player of the Week for the period ending Apr. 16, 2017.

McCann closed out the season with four goals (including two game-winners), seven points and a plus-8 rating in three games for the Thunderbirds last week.

On Wednesday night, McCann assisted on two third-period goals to help Springfield get past Providence, 4-3. On Friday, his first career hat trick paced the Thunderbirds to a 7-0 win over Bridgeport. And on Saturday, McCann recorded a goal and an assist as Springfield ended its inaugural season with a 5-1 victory over Hartford.

A first-round selection (24th overall) by Vancouver in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft, McCann wrapped his second professional season with 11 goals and 14 assists for 25 points in 42 games with Springfield, as well as one goal and six assists in 29 NHL games with the parent Florida Panthers. The 20-year-old McCann appeared in 69 NHL games with Vancouver as a rookie in 2015-16, posting nine goals and nine assists.
