McIlrath heads to Red Wings

The Detroit Red Wings, parent club of the AHL’s Grand Rapids Griffins, today acquired defenseman Dylan McIlrath and a conditional third-round pick in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft from the Florida Panthers in exchange for forward Thomas Vanek.

McIlrath, 24, has appeared in 43 career NHL games, totaling three goals and two assists with 94 penalty minutes. The former first-round pick (10th overall) of the New York Rangers has also skated in 204 American Hockey League games with the Connecticut Whale/Hartford Wolf Pack and Springfield Thunderbirds, notching 13 goals and 30 assists for 43 points, a plus-10 rating and 501 penalty minutes.

This season, the 6-foot-5, 236-pound defenseman has appeared in six NHL games between the Rangers and Panthers, notching one goal and 14 penalty minutes, as well as 22 AHL games between Hartford and Springfield, recording one goal and three assists with 39 PIM.
