Nash, DeSantis trade places

The Montreal Canadiens have reassigned defenseman Brendon Nash to the San Antonio Rampage, while the Florida Panthers have reassigned defenseman Jason DeSantis to the Hamilton Bulldogs, both teams announced today.

Nash, 25, has played 26 games for the Bulldogs this season, recording eight points (one goal, seven assists), 39 penalty minutes and a plus-5 rating, after missing the entire 2011-12 season with a shoulder injury.

In 101 regular-season games with the Bulldogs, the native of Kamloops, B.C., has posted 38 points (six goals, 32 assists), 97 penalty minutes and a plus-27 rating. Nash also appeared in 19 Calder Cup Playoff games with Hamilton in 2011, recording four assists.

Nash played four seasons at Cornell University (2006-10) and tallied 67 points (eight goals, 59 assists) in 120 games.

DeSantis, 26, has played 28 games for the Rampage this season, recording nine points (two goals, seven assists) and 22 penalty minutes. He played 66 games for the St. John’s IceCaps last season and posted 11 goals and 32 assists for 43 points along with 58 penalty minutes, which were all American Hockey League career-highs for the defenseman.

The native of Oxford, Mich., has skated in 179 regular-season games in the AHL, notching 79 points (15 goals, 64 assists) and 106 penalty minutes with Philadelphia, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, St. John’s and San Antonio.

DeSantis played four seasons at Ohio State University (2004-08), registering 59 points (16 goals, 43 assists) and 150 penalty minutes in 144 games.
