Norfolk holds off IceCats

Adam Munro made 23 saves and Travis Moen and Mike Brown scored 29 seconds apart midway through the second period as Norfolk took a 3-1 decision from Worcester on Wednesday afternoon at Scope.

Former IceCat Eric Nickulas added an empty-net goal for the Admirals, who moved to within two points of division-leading Binghamton in the East.

Norfolk prevailed despite a combined zero shots on goal from its top four scorers — Rene Bourque, Matt Keith, Matt Ellison and Pavel Vorobiev.

Moen and Nickulas each finished with a goal and an assist.

Peter Sejna scored the only goal for Worcester, tying for the league lead with his fifth shorthanded score of the year.

St. John’s saw its six-game winning streak come to an end as Cleveland scored five times in the third period, led by Pat Rissmiller with a goal and two assists, and the Barons posted a 7-1 victory… Justin Papineau scored in the third period and again in the seventh shootout round as Bridgeport pulled out a 4-3 win at Binghamton… Springfield stopped a six-game slide, getting a goal and an assist from Jim Campbell in a 4-2 win over Hershey… Chicago ran its points streak to 12 games (11-0-1-0) with a 3-2 shootout win over Edmonton… Kyle Wanvig had two goals and an assist for Houston in a 5-1 win at Utah.
