Omark earns AHL’s weekly honor

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. … The American Hockey League announced today that Oklahoma City Barons left wing Linus Omark has been named the Reebok/AHL Player of the Week for the period ending Nov. 7, 2010. Omark scored six goals in three games last week, including a tremendous solo effort on Sunday evening.

Omark’s week began on Friday night when he scored the game-winning goal in the Barons’ 6-1 victory over Texas. And after being held off the scoresheet by Houston on Saturday, Omark erupted on Sunday evening in a big way. Oklahoma City trailed 4-1 before Omark scored five goals in the final period and a half of regulation and then added a shootout tally as the Barons rallied for a 7-6 win over Toronto. It was the first five-goal performance in the AHL in nearly two years.

In recognition of his achievement, Omark will be presented with an etched crystal award prior to an upcoming Barons home game.

A fourth-round draft pick by Edmonton in 2007, Omark is in his first season of play in North America and finds himself tied for the AHL lead in goals (10) and tied for fifth in points (17) in 15 games for Oklahoma City. A native of Overtornea, Sweden, the 23-year-old Omark played last season for Dynamo Moscow (KHL) after four seasons with Lulea HF in the Swedish Elitserien.
