Penguins bounce back big in Game 2

The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins bounced back in a big way on Saturday, avenging Friday’s 4-0 loss with a 6-1 victory over the Providence Bruins in Game 2 of their best-of-seven Eastern Conference semifinal series.

With the series even at one game apiece, the scene shifts to Providence for the next three games beginning Wednesday.

After blanking Wilkes-Barre in Game 1, Niklas Svedberg kept the Penguins off the board in the first period on Saturday and extended his shutout streak to 134:33 before Conor Sheary finally broke through at 5:41 of the second with the first goal of his professional career.

Providence tied things up at 11:25 on Justin Florek‘s power-play goal, but the Penguins erupted for three goals in the final 4:02 of the second period — two by Anton Zlobin and one by Chuck Kobasew — to take a 4-1 lead.

Tom Kostopoulos and Brian Dumoulin scored in the third period for the final margin of victory.

Zlobin (2g, 1a) and Dumoulin (1g, 2a) finished the night with three points apiece and Peter Mannino stopped 23 of 24 shots to earn the win.

Svedberg allowed five goals on 24 shots before giving way to Malcolm Subban.
