Penguins need OT again, win Game 3

Chuck Kobasew redirected Conor Sheary‘s point shot with 7:32 gone in overtime to give the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins a 3-2 win and a 2-1 series lead over the Binghamton Senators on Wednesday night.

The Penguins will try to wrap up the best-of-five series in Game 4 on Friday.

Sheary, who played two regular-season games for the Penguins after completing his senior season at the University of Massachusetts, brought the puck back to the point after collecting it down low in the offensive zone and sent a shot that was tipped high in the slot by Kobasew and past Andrew Hammond for the win.

The teams went to overtime for the third straight game after Jim O’Brien scored for the Senators with 9:02 left in regulation.

Nick Drazenovic opened the scoring for the Penguins with a 5-on-3 power-play goal 7:32 into the game, but Corey Cowick responded with a shorthanded tally just 21 seconds later.

Adam Payerl scored late in the second period to put the Pens up, 2-1.

Peter Mannino made 20 saves for Wilkes-Barre, while Hammond stopped 30 shots for Binghamton.
