Penguins oust Senators again

Figuring that their series had had enough drama through three games, the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins rolled to a 5-1 win over the Binghamton Senators on Friday night to eliminate their East Division rivals.

Andrew Ebbett led the offense with a goal and two assists as the Penguins won the series, three games to one. It was the first regulation decision of the series after Games 1, 2 and 3 were all decided in overtime.

Chuck Kobasew, Brian Dumoulin and Harry Zolnierczyk recorded a goal and an assist each for the Penguins and Peter Mannino made 26 saves for Wilkes-Barre, whose league-leading defense held Binghamton’s top-ranked offense to nine goals in four games.

The Penguins, who have won at least one playoff series in 11 of the last 12 seasons, will meet either St. John’s or Providence in the second round.

Shane Prince scored the only goal of Game 4 for Binghamton, which lost in the first round to Wilkes-Barre for the second year in a row.
