The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins announced today that they have signed forward Cody Wydo to an American Hockey League contract for the 2017-18 season.

Wydo comes to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton after two full seasons with the Penguins’ ECHL affiliate, the Wheeling Nailers. In his time with Wheeling, he posted 116 points (54 goals, 62 assists) in 138 games.

Wydo made his AHL debut with the Penguins last season, appearing in three games after signing a professional tryout on Apr. 8. He tallied one goal in three games with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.

A 26-year-old native of Southgate, Mich., Wydo led Wheeling with 30 goals and tied for the team lead with 60 points in 70 games last season. As a first-year pro in 2015-16, he recorded 50 points in 59 regular-season games before adding 12 goals and 21 points during Wheeling’s run to the league finals.

Wydo played four seasons at Robert Morris University and was a finalist for the Hobey Baker Award as a senior in 2014-15.
