Penguins sweep aside Crunch

Conor Sheary had two goals and an assist and Matt Murray made 33 saves as Wilkes-Barre/Scranton completed a three-game sweep of Syracuse with a 5-2 road win over the Crunch on Wednesday night.

Scott Wilson, Derrick Pouliot and Andrew Ebbett all had a goal and an assist for the Penguins, who outscored Syracuse 14-3 in the series.

Sheary’s first goal of the night gave Wilkes-Barre the lead for good at 2:39 of the second period, and the Penguins broke it open with goals from Sheary and Pouliot early in the third.

Yanni Gourde and Tanner Richard scored for the Crunch, who were swept in a series for the first time since 1997.

Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, which has qualified for the Calder Cup Playoffs 13 years in a row, has now won at least one series in 12 of those 13 postseasons.
