Phantoms, Bulldogs regain series leads

Mark Murphy scored twice for Philadelphia and Jimmie Olvestad did the same for Hamilton as both teams posted Game 3 wins on Tuesday night to take 2-1 leads in their respective division semifinal series. Murphy’s first two goals of this postseason lifted the Phantoms to a 3-1 win in Norfolk. John Slaney added a goal and an assist, and Antero Niittymaki stopped 17 of 18 shots. Philadelphia has allowed just 65 shots on goal over the first three games of the series.

Craig Anderson gave up three goals on 13 shots before being replaced in the Admirals cage by Michael Leighton, who finished with seven saves.

At Gund Arena, Eero Somervuori and Francois Beauchemin scored 2:31 apart late in the second period to break open a 1-1 tie and lift Hamilton to a 5-3 win over Cleveland. Olvestad added two goals in the third and J.P. Cote recorded two assists.

Game 4 in Norfolk is Wednesday night. Cleveland and Hamilton resume their series on Thursday.
