Phantoms ink deal with WIP

Sportsradio 610 WIP and the Philadelphia Phantoms announced on Friday that the station will air a selection of games over the air and via the internet during the 2005-06 season, the first time in franchise history that the Phantoms will be heard on Philadelphia radio.

In addition to the broadcast of the defending Calder Cup champions’ season opener against Binghamton on Oct. 8, WIP will air one additional Phantoms broadcast on their radio signal later in the season. All other Phantoms hockey games being broadcast by WIP will be featured on the station’s internet audio stream at www.610wip.com. WIP is also the exclusive broadcast rights holder for the Philadelphia 76ers and Philadelphia Flyers.

Tim Saunders, the voice of the Flyers, will provide play-by-play commentary for all of WIP’s Phantoms hockey broadcasts on its radio signal. Mike Thornton, who has joined the Phantoms after six seasons as the voice of the Worcester IceCats, will provide the play-by-play for all internet audio stream broadcasts.

Nineteen games are currently scheduled to be cybercast on WIP’s Web site. For more information, visit phantomshockey.com.
