Pirates pick up Fairchild, Stalberg

The Phoenix Coyotes announced today that the club has acquired defenseman Cade Fairchild from the St. Louis Blues and have assigned him to the Portland Pirates. In a separate transaction, the Pirates have acquired Sebastian Stalberg from the San Jose Sharks on loan.

The 5-foot-11, 190-pound Fairchild has spent the 2013-14 season with the Chicago Wolves, tallying two goals and 19 assists for 21 points in 33 games.

A native of Duluth, Minn., Fairchild was an AHL All-Star and a member of the league’s All-Rookie Team in 2011-12. The third-year pro has recorded 10 goals and 53 assists for 63 points in 144 career AHL games, and has one assist in five career NHL contests with St. Louis.

Fairchild was selected by the Blues in the fourth round of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft.

Stalberg, a 6-foot-1, 185-pound right wing from Lerum, Sweden, has one goal and four assists in 23 games with Worcester this season, while adding eight goals and seven assists in 19 ECHL games between San Francisco and Ontario.

A second-year pro out of the University of Vermont, Stalberg has 14 goals and 14 assists for 28 points in 102 career AHL contests, all with Worcester.
