Pittsburgh to go camping in WBS

The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins announced today that their NHL affiliate, the Pittsburgh Penguins, will hold a portion of their training camp in Wilkes-Barre.

The Penguins are scheduled to hold training camp at the Wachovia Arena at Casey Plaza from Sept. 20-24. Pittsburgh will arrive in Wilkes-Barre on Monday, Sept. 19 and will hold its first on-ice workouts on Tuesday, Sept. 20. A complete training camp schedule will be announced at a later date.

“It’s going to be exciting to have Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins at the Arena for five days,” said Wilkes-Barre/Scranton CEO Jeff Barrett. “Pittsburgh has thoroughly enjoyed its experience in northeastern Pennsylvania in the past, and is looking forward to spending part of training camp here as the team prepares for the 2005-06 season.”

This will mark the fourth time that the Penguins have held portions of training camp in Wilkes-Barre. They previously visited the area in 2000, 2001 and 2002.

In addition, the Penguins will play two preseason games at Wachovia Arena. They will host the Boston Bruins on Wednesday, Sept. 21, and the Ottawa Senators on Saturday, Sept. 24.

Ticket information for the two games will be announced later this month.
