Predators ink Triston Grant

mil_200.jpgNashville Predators President of Hockey Operations/General Manager David Poile announced today that the team has signed forward Triston Grant to a one-year, two-way contract. In addition, the Milwaukee Admirals announced today that they have signed defenseman Scott Ford, Mark Matheson, and Russ Sinkewich to American Hockey League contracts.

Grant posted three goals and eight assists for 11 points, and notched 153 penalty minutes, which was second best on the team, in 55 games for the Admirals in 2008-09. The 6-1, 210-pound right wing also ranked third on the Admirals in plus/minus rating (+11) and was one of just four AHLers to post more than 150 penalty minutes and a plus/minus rating in double digits. Originally selected by Philadelphia in the ninth round (286th overall) of the 2004 NHL Entry Draft, Grant totaled 12 PIMs and two points in 11 post-season games for Milwaukee. The Neepawa, MB native has one assist and ten penalty minutes in eight NHL games, all with the Philadelphia Flyers.

Matheson finished the year third among Admirals blueliners with 25 points (2g-23a) in 76 contests and chipped in three assists in the post-season. The Calgary, AB native recorded his first AHL goal on December 26th against Quad City and then posted the game-winner and added two assists in a 6-2 win over San Antonio three nights later. In just over two seasons with the Milwaukee, Matheson has skated in 132 games and collected 35 points (2g-33a) and 76 penalty minutes.

Ford established career AHL highs in goals (4), points (10) and penalty minutes (128) and tied career marks with six assists and a +9 rating 63 games during his first season with Milwaukee. The Fort St. John, BC native collected the game-winning goal in a 2-0 over Peoria on January 3rd and also chipped in an assist in 11 post-season games with the Ads. A Brown University alum, Ford has totaled 24 points (6-18) in 164 career AHL games with the Admirals, Bridgeport, Providence, and Cleveland.

Sinkewich, who signed a two-way AHL/ECHL contract, joined the Admirals for five games at the end of the regular season, registering an assist and a +3 rating. The Westlake, OH native finished a four-year career at Bowling Green University in 2008-09 and also played five games for the Lake Erie Monsters before signing with Milwaukee.
