Rangers recall Miller, Mashinter

The New York Rangers announced Monday that the club has recalled forwards J.T. Miller and Brandon Mashinter from the Connecticut Whale of the American Hockey League, while forward Benn Ferriero has been assigned to Connecticut.
Miller, 19, has registered eight goals and 12 assists for 20 points, along with 27 penalty minutes, in 37 games with the Whale this season. Miller represented the Whale at the 2013 Dunkin' Donuts AHL All-Star Classic last week, and becomes the 10th participant to be recalled to the NHL since the All-Star Game on Jan. 28.
The East Palestine, Ohio, native represented the United States at the 2013 World Junior Ice Hockey Championship, leading the team with seven assists and finishing tied for the team lead with nine points in capturing the the gold medal.
Miller was originally selected as the Rangers’ first-round choice, 15th overall, in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft.
Mashinter, 24, was acquired by the Rangers from San Jose in exchange for forward Tommy Grant and a conditional pick in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft on Jan. 16. He has registered five goals and seven assists for 12 points in 38 AHL games between Connecticut and Worcester this season, including seven points in eight contests with the Whale.
Ferriero, 25, tallied one assist in four games with the Rangers following his recall on Jan. 25. In 35 AHL games with Connecticut and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton this season, Ferriero has totaled four goals and 15 assists for 19 points.
The Rangers acquired Ferriero from Pittsburgh in exchange for forward Chad Kolarik on Jan. 24.
