Reign clinch berth in Calder Cup Playoffs

The Ontario Reign clinched a berth in the 2017 Calder Cup Playoffs with a 4-0 win in San Diego on Friday night.

The Reign are the eighth team into the 16-team field for the AHL postseason, and the sixth of eight from the Western Conference.

Ontario has now qualified for the playoffs in each of its first two seasons as members of the AHL, and the Los Angeles Kings’ top affiliate has made the Calder Cup postseason 18 times in the last 19 years. The Reign reached the Western Conference finals last season, a year after the Manchester Monarchs won the 2015 Calder Cup championship.

The AHL’s 2016-17 regular season ends next Saturday, Apr. 15; for more information and daily updates on the Calder Cup Playoff races, check out the official AHL Playoff Primer.
