Roadrunners sign pair of defenseman

The Tucson Roadrunners, proud American Hockey League affiliate of the Arizona Coyotes, announced that the team has signed defensemen Michael Young and Michael Boivin to American Hockey League two-way contracts.

The 27-year-old Young spent last season with the Roadrunners’ ECHL affiliate, the Rapid City Rush, where he appeared in 35 games with four goals, 14 assists and 18 points.

The 6-3, 223-pounder wrapped up his collegiate career with the University of Nebraska-Omaha in 2013-14, appearing in 148 games totaling 13 goals, 55 assists and 68 points with a +6 rating. Young also served as team captain in his senior season.

Boivin, 25, comes to the Roadrunners by way of the Manchester Monarchs of the ECHL where he played his first pro season in North America last year. While with the Monarchs he appeared in 62 games, scoring 10 goals, 23 assists and 33 points. He also posted a +6 rating.

After completing a four-year career at Colorado College the Delta, B.C., native spent the next two seasons playing in Austria’s top league the Erste Bank Eishockey Liga for EC Salzburg and Szekesfehervar. In 90 games overseas Boivin totaled 18 goals, 31 assists and 49 points along with a +13 rating.
