Rochester acquires veteran defenseman Mormina

The Rochester Americans on Friday acquired veteran defenseman Joey Mormina from the Syracuse Crunch in exchange for future considerations. 

Mormina, 33, has skated in 30 games with the Crunch this season, posting three assists and 24 penalty minutes. Over his three seasons with Syracuse, the 6-foot-6, 229-pound alternate captain has skated in 140 games and posted 35 points (7g, 28a) and 180 penalty minutes.

During his 650 career AHL games with Manchester, Albany, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, Adirondack and Syracuse, the Montreal, Que., native has tallied 148 points (31 goals, 117 assists) with 801 penalty minutes and a plus-37 rating. Additionally, Mormina has appeared in 69 Calder Cup playoff games, totaling two goals and eight assists.

Mormina made his National Hockey League debut with the Carolina Hurricanes on Feb. 14, 2008, against the Pittsburgh Penguins, the only game of his NHL career.

Mormina was selected in the sixth round, 193rd overall, by the Philadelphia Flyers in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft.
