Rockford heading to first postseason since 2010

After four years away, the Rockford IceHogs are returning to the Calder Cup Playoffs this spring.

The IceHogs clinched a berth in the AHL’s 2015 postseason with a convincing 7-2 win over Rochester on Saturday night. It will be Rockford’s first trip to the playoffs since 2010.

Alex Broadhurst had two goals and three assists to lead the charge on Saturday, tying an AHL season high with a five-point night. Ryan Hartman added a goal and two assists, and Dennis Rasmussen and Mark McNeill chipped in with a goal and an assist each.

Rockford, currently 41-21-5-2 (89 points), finished ninth in the Western Conference in 2012-13 and 2013-14, and was no more than seven points out of the final playoff spot in each of the last four seasons.

Eight teams in each conference will qualify for the 2015 Calder Cup Playoffs. For more information and daily updates on the playoff races, check out the official AHL Playoff Primer.
