Sabres sign AHL All-Star Grant

The Buffalo Sabres, parent club of the AHL’s Rochester Americans, have signed forward Derek Grant to a one-year, two-way contract.

Grant, 26, was an AHL All-Star during an injury-shortened 2015-16 season with the Stockton Heat, leading the team with 27 goals and adding 18 assists for 45 points in just 36 games played.

Grant also skated in 15 NHL games with the Calgary Flames, notching one assist.

The native of Abbotsford, B.C., has skated in 292 regular-season AHL games with Stockton and Binghamton, recording 88 goals and 74 assists for 162 points. He also has one goal and two assists in 14 postseason games and won the Calder Cup with Binghamton in 2011.

In 40 career NHL games with Calgary and Ottawa, Grant has tallied three assists. He was a fourth-round choice by Ottawa in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.
