Samuelsson, Shinnimin sign with Coyotes

Arizona Coyotes General Manager Don Maloney announced today that the Coyotes have signed defenseman Philip Samuelsson and forward Brendan Shinnimin to one-year, two-way contracts. As per club policy, terms of the contracts were not disclosed.

 
The 23-year-old Samuelsson appeared in four games with the Coyotes in 2014-15. He also recorded 5-15-20 and 31 penalty minutes (PIM) in 51 games with the Portland Pirates and 0-4-4 and 20 PIM in 22 games with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. The 6-foot-2, 194-pound native of Leksand, Sweden has played in nine career NHL games with the Coyotes and Pittsburgh Penguins.
 
Samuelsson was originally drafted by the Penguins in the second round (61st overall) in the 2009 Entry Draft.
 
The 24-year-old Shinnimin recorded 0-1-1 with eight PIM in 12 games with the Coyotes last season. The 5-foot-10, 185-pound native of Winnipeg, Manitoba also totaled 22-25-47 and 80 PIM in 64 games with the Pirates, and represented the Eastern Conference at the 2015 AHL All-Star Classic in Utica, N.Y.
