San Jose signs Lerg, Haley

The San Jose Sharks, parent club of the AHL's Worcester Sharks, have signed forwards Bryan Lerg and Micheal Haley to one-year contracts.

Lerg, 28, recorded 12 goals and 15 assists for 27 points in 35 games with Lake Erie of the American Hockey League last season. Lake Erie's captain finished the 2013-14 season ranked seventh on the team in points and tied for fifth in goals scored.

In 280 career AHL games with Lake Erie, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton and Springfield, Lerg has amassed 154 points (76 goals, 78 assists) and 100 penalty minutes. Prior to turning pro in 2008, Lerg spent four seasons with Michigan State, helping the Spartans win the 2008 NCAA championship.

The 5-foot-10, 175-pound native of Livonia, Mich., was originally signed as an undrafted free agent by Edmonton on April 1, 2008.

Haley, 28, collected 18 points (seven goals, 11 assists) in 53 games with Hartford of the American Hockey League in 2013-14, and finished second on the team with 131 penalty minutes.

Haley has recorded 114 points (57 goals, 57 assists) and 940 penalty minutes in 369 career AHL games with Hartford/Connecticut and Bridgeport, and has added two goals, one assist and 163 penalty minutes in 52 career NHL games with the New York Rangers and New York Islanders.

The 5-foot-10, 205-pound native of Guelph, Ont., was originally signed as an undrafted free agent by the Islanders on May 19, 2008.
