Sateri named CCM/AHL Player of the Week

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. … The American Hockey League announced today that Springfield Thunderbirds goaltender Harri Sateri has been selected as the CCM/AHL Player of the Week for the period ending Apr. 8, 2018.

Sateri was 3-0-0 in three starts on the road for Springfield last week, stopping 82 of 84 shots for a 0.67 goals-against average and a .976 save percentage.

On Wednesday night, Sateri made 33 saves and extended his shutout streak to 135:58 before finally allowing a goal late in the third period of a 2-1 win at Belleville. On Friday, he turned aside 23 shots in the Thunderbirds’ 5-1 victory at Laval. And on Sunday evening, Sateri made 26 stops for his fourth shutout of the season to help Springfield to a 2-0 win in Hartford, improving to 14-2-3 in his last 19 AHL decisions.

A 28-year-old native of Toijala, Finland, Sateri ranks sixth in the AHL with a 2.25 goals-against average and fourth with a .927 save percentage in 26 games for Springfield this season, showing a record of 14-7-3. He also made his National Hockey League debut with Florida, making nine appearances (4-4-0, 2.92, .911). Originally drafted by San Jose in 2008, Sateri is 62-75-10 with a 2.78 GAA, a 906 save percentage and eight shutouts in 155 career AHL contests with Springfield and Worcester.

In recognition of being named the CCM/AHL Player of the Week, Sateri will be presented with an etched crystal award prior to an upcoming Thunderbirds home game.
