Senators win annual Thanksgiving Day game, 4-1

Binghamton netted four unanswered goals after giving up the game’s initial tally en route to a 4-1 victory over Rochester in the annual Thanksgiving Day game at the Broome County Arena. Denis Hamel scored twice for the Senators, increasing his team-leading totals in goals (10) and points (16). The home team is now 16-16-2 all-time on Thanksgiving in Binghamton.

Rochester initially took a 1-0 lead in the first period, as Dan Collins tallied his third goal of the season just 1:23 after the opening face-off. The power play goal was assisted by Anthony Stewart and Rob Globke.

Globke now has a point in a season-high four straight games (3-3-6).

The second period belonged to Binghamton, as Niko Dimitrakos, Justin Mapletoft, and Hamel all lit the lamp for the Senators. Mapletoft’s goal, the eventual game-winner, came shorthanded at 4:06.

Hamel added his 10th of the season midway through the third period to give Binghamton additional insurance.

Nick Foligno posted two assists on the evening, and goaltender Jeff Glass stopped 19 of 20 shots to improve his season record to 6-4-0.

Amerks netminder David Shantz stopped 32 of 36 in the losing effort, as his club was outshot in the game by a final margin of 36-20.

Both clubs are back on the ice on Friday night. The Americans return home to host division-rival Lake Erie, while the Senators travel down Route 81 for a divisional game against Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.
