SERIES NOTEBOOK:
After their remarkable series triumph over Manchester, Binghamton takes on Portland in the Atlantic Division finals... The Senators’ first-round series was the first one in AHL history to see Games 5, 6 and 7 require overtime, and Binghamton won them all to come back from a 3-1 series deficit... Ryan Potulny – who ended the longest AHL game ever at 2:58 of the fifth overtime in 2008 – scored another historic goal when he got the sudden-death game-winner in Game 7... Potulny recorded eight goals and 14 points against the Monarchs to lead all AHL scorers... AHL MVP Corey Locke, out since Apr. 3 due to injury, had a point on six of the Senators’ seven goals in two regular-season games vs. Portland... Bobby Butler had a goal in each of Binghamton’s last three games vs. Manchester... Corey Tropp (2-5-7) was Portland’s leading scorer in its six-game victory over Connecticut, recording more points than shots on goal (five)... Goaltender Jhonas Enroth and AHL defenseman of the year Marc-Andre Gragnani missed the Pirates’ entire first-round series while on NHL recall to Buffalo, where Gragnani was the Sabres’ leading scorer (1-6-7) in their seven-game loss to Philadelphia... Portland and Binghamton both joined the AHL as member cities in 1977, but they had never met in the Calder Cup Playoffs until now... Portland head coach Kevin Dineen spent part of his rookie season with the AHL’s Binghamton Whalers in 1984-85, recording 23 points in 25 games.
