Sexton honored for 9-point weekend

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. … The American Hockey League announced today that Syracuse Crunch right wing Dan Sexton has been named the Reebok/AHL Player of the Week for the period ending Nov. 6, 2011.

Sexton had a hand in nearly all of the Crunch’s offense last week, scoring twice and adding seven assists to record points on nine of Syracuse’s 10 goals in two games.

Opening a home-and-home weekend series with rival Rochester on Saturday, Sexton tallied a goal and four assists to help Syracuse to a 5-2 victory. The five-point performance was a career best, and matched a season high in the AHL this season. In Sunday’s rematch in Rochester, Sexton scored again and dished out three more assists as the Crunch rallied from three separate deficits to earn a point in a 6-5 overtime loss.

Sexton notched nine points in a 25-hour span after entering the weekend with four points in his first nine games this season.

Sexton, 24, is in his third professional season after signing with the Anaheim Ducks as a free agent on Apr. 7, 2009. The native of Apple Valley, Minn., has four goals and nine assists for 13 points in 11 games for Syracuse this season, and has totaled 42 points (18 goals, 24 assists) in 41 career AHL games. Sexton has also appeared in 88 NHL contests with Anaheim, notching 13 goals and 19 assists for 32 points.

In recognition of his achievement, Sexton will be presented with an etched crystal award prior to an upcoming Crunch home game.
