Matt Taormina scored at 6:34 of overtime to give the Worcester Sharks a 3-2 win over the Binghamton Senators in both teams’ 2014-15 season opener on Saturday night in Binghamton, N.Y.

Taormina’s goal capped a wild sequence with the clubs skating 3-on-3, per the AHL’s new overtime rules adopted in the offseason.

Ryan Carpenter and Micheal Haley scored first-period goals for the Sharks while Troy Grosenick made 41 saves in net for the win, including six in overtime. Eriah Hayes and Taylor Fedun had two assists each for the Sharks.

Ryan Dzingel scored both goals for the Senators, and Andrew Hammond stopped 45 of 48 Worcester shots.
