Stars, Panthers exchange defensemen

The Florida Panthers have acquired defenseman Ludwig Bystrom from the Dallas Stars in exchange for defenseman Reece Scarlett.

Bystrom, 23, has appeared in six games for the AHL’s Texas Stars this season, recording one goal.

The six-foot, 175-pound native of Ornskoldsvik, Sweden, has played in 138 career AHL games, producing five goals and 31 assists for 36 points to go with a plus-14 rating.

Originally a second-round draft pick by Dallas in 2012, Bystrom was a member of the Farjestad BK club that participated in the 2014 AHL All-Star Classic.

Scarlett, 24, has one goal and one assist in 13 AHL games with the Springfield Thunderbirds this season.

A fifth-year pro, Scarlett has appeared in 229 career AHL games with Springfield and Albany, totaling 18 goals and 77 assists for 95 points.

The 6-foot-1, 185-pound native of Edmonton, Alta., was originally selected by New Jersey in the sixth round of the 2011 NHL Draft.
