Biography
2007-08: Began the season in the NHL with the Anaheim Ducks, playing in three games in October of 2007. Scored his first career NHL goal on 10/17 against Nashville, which also turned out to be the game-winning goal. With Portland, scored the game-winning goal in the Pirates 4-3 overtime win at home against the Springfield Falcons on 12/15. Had two assists in the Pirates 4-0 win at home against Providence on 1/12. Scored in the Pirates 5-4 overtime win against Hartford on 1/19.
2006-07: Wirtanen’s first season in North America went smoothly, as the forward managed to add in 18 points, including 7 goals, to the Pirates offense in 67 games for Portland.
Career: Wirtanen played his first professional season in North America after being selected by the Ducks in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft. In 2004-05, Wirtanen played for HPK Hameenlinna going scoreless in 8 games. During the 2005-06 campaign, Wirtanen skated in 50 games scoring 8 goals and 11 points along with 24 penalty minutes.
