cc08_challenge.jpgSPRINGFIELD, Mass. … The American Hockey League has announced a new on-line game called the 2008 Calder Cup Challenge, which is offering AHL fans the opportunity to test their postseason knowledge and win exciting prizes.

Registration is underway now at theahl.com. Participants will select a total of 10 players from among the 16 teams in the 2008 Calder Cup Playoffs, and accumulate points in the contest as their players rack up goals, assists, wins and shutouts. Contestants will also be asked to answer bonus questions (e.g., “How many overtime games will there be this postseason?”) to receive additional points.

The 2008 Calder Cup Challenge begins with the first game of the division semifinal round in mid-April and ends with the last game of the Calder Cup Finals in June.

The participant with the most points at the end of the contest will be the grand prize winner and receive a game-worn autographed jersey from the 2008 AHL All-Star Game. Other top-10 finishers will receive prizes including team-autographed All-Star jerseys, AHL team premier jerseys from Reebok and AHL prize packs. Complete contest rules can be found at theahl.com.

In operation since 1936, the AHL continues to serve as the top development league for all 30 National Hockey League teams. More than 83 percent of today’s NHL players are American Hockey League graduates, and more than 40 million fans have attended AHL games across North America since the 2001-02 season.
