Ullstrom recalled by Islanders

The New York Islanders announced today that forward David Ullstrom has been recalled from loan from the Bridgeport Sound Tigers of the American Hockey League.

Ullstrom’s first career NHL call-up comes after the Islanders placed goaltender Al Montoya on injured reserve, retroactive to Tuesday, Nov. 15.

Ullstrom, 22, leads all Sound Tigers with 14 points (12 goals, two assists) in 17 games this season. The Jonkoping, Sweden, native is tied for the AHL goal-scoring lead. The Islanders selected Ullstrom in the fourth round, 102nd overall, of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.

The 6-foot-2, 195-pound winger scored 41 points (17 goals, 24 assists) in 67 games with the Sound Tigers last year during his first professional season in North America.

On the international stage, Ullstrom won the Silver Medal with Team Sweden at the 2009 World Junior Championship.
