Vey named AHL Rookie of the Month

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. … The American Hockey League announced today that Manchester Monarchs right wing Linden Vey has been named the Reebok/AHL Rookie of the Month for February. Vey recorded six goals and eight assists for 14 points, along with a plus-9 rating, in 12 games during the month.

Vey began the month by matching a season high with three points in Manchester’s 3-2 overtime victory over Binghamton on Feb. 3. His goal on Feb. 4 gave the Monarchs the lead for good in a 3-2 win at Bridgeport, and he extended his scoring streak to four games with an assist each on Feb. 7 vs. Portland and Feb. 10 at Worcester. Vey scored shorthanded and added an assist on Feb. 19 vs. Adirondack, and recorded two goals, an assist, a shootout goal and a team-record plus-5 rating at Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Feb. 23. Vey finished the month by scoring the game-winning goal and notching an assist in a 4-3 win over Providence on Feb. 26.

The 20-year-old Vey has tallied 17 goals and 19 assists for 36 points while skating in 57 games for Manchester this season, good for the team scoring lead. Vey, a native of Wakaw, Sask., played four junior seasons at Medicine Hat and led the Western Hockey League in scoring with 116 points in 2010-11. He was selected by Los Angeles in the fourth round of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft.

In recognition of his achievement, Vey will be presented with an etched crystal award prior to an upcoming Monarchs home game.
