WBS Penguins ink goalie Mannino

The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins announced today that they have signed goaltender Peter Mannino to an American Hockey League contract.

Now entering his sixth year of professional hockey, Mannino went 10-7-0 in 20 games with the Manchester Monarchs last season, while recording a 2.47 goals-against average and a .919 save percentage.

Undrafted out of the University of Denver, where he won an NCAA championship in 2005, Mannino began his career with the New York Islanders organization in 2008-09, appearing in 34 games with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers and making his NHL debut with the Islanders vs. Boston on Nov. 28, 2008.

Mannino has played a total of 159 regular-season AHL contests with Manchester, Portland, St. John’s, Chicago and Bridgeport, posting a career record of 81-52-8 with four shutouts, a 2.83 GAA and a .905 save percentage. His best season came in 2009-10 with Chicago as he was 26-5-1 and finished sixth in the league with a 2.34 GAA and fourth with a .921 save percentage.

Originally from Farmington Hills, Mich., Mannino has played six career NHL games with the Islanders and Atlanta/Winnipeg.
