Weiman’s 37-save shutout leads Monsters over Marlies

LAKE ERIE 3, TORONTO 0
Lake Erie scored once in each period and goaltender Tyler Weiman (pictured) turned in a 37-save shutout performance as the Monsters blanked Toronto by a 3-0 final in a Saturday afternoon tilt at Ricoh Coliseum.

Defenseman Aaron MacKenzie and forwards Chris Durno and T.J. Hensick netted goals for Lake Erie, which snapped a four-game losing skid.

MacKenzie opened the game’s scoring with his first goal of the campaign at 6:22 of the first period. The goal came unassisted.

Durno made it 2-0 at 14:36 of the middle stanza, with Jesse Boulerice and T.J. Galiardi picking up assists.

Hensick extended the lead to 3-0 just 26 seconds into the final period off a feed by Kyle Cumiskey. Hensick, an AHL All-Star as a rookie for the Monsters last season, has now netted a goal in four straight games (4-0-4).

Weiman evened his season record at 2-2-0 with his first shutout since Jan. 5, 2008, at Rockford. Lake Erie came away with the win despite the Marlies holding a 37-14 advantage in shots.

Neither team scored a power play goal on the afternoon, as Toronto went 0-for-8 and Lake Erie 0-for-5.
