Wild recall Hackett from Houston

The Minnesota Wild on Friday announced the National Hockey League club has recalled goaltender Matt Hackett from the Houston Aeros of the American Hockey League.

The team also placed goaltender Darcy Kuemper on injured reserve.

Hackett joins the Wild for the first time this season after playing in 42 games with Houston, posting a 19-19-3 record, a 2.56 goals-against average and a .910 save percentage. The native of London, Ont., who celebrated his 23rd birthday Thursday, made 24 saves to earn the victory in the Aeros’ 5-1 win in Abbotsford Saturday. He has started eight consecutive games with the Aeros since Feb. 12, posting a 5-3-0 record, 1.85 GAA and .934 SV% in that span.

Last season, Hackett set an NHL record for the longest shutout streak to start a career at 102:48 and went 3-6-0 with a 2.37 GAA and .922 SV% in 12 games with the Wild. He stopped all 34 shots in 58:49 of relief at San Jose in his NHL debut Dec. 6, 2011.

Kuemper was placed on injured reserve after stopping 14 of 15 shots in relief Tuesday in Chicago. The 22-year-old has posted a 1-2-0 record, 2.22 GAA and .924 SV% in his first four NHL games after being recalled from Houston Feb. 12.
