The defending Calder Cup champion Chicago Wolves have a two-game preseason slate, consisting of a home-and-home set against the Milwaukee Admirals. The AHL’s three Canadian clubs – the Hamilton Bulldogs, Manitoba Moose and Toronto Marlies – will participate in a round-robin tournament in St. John’s and Mount Pearl, N.L., from Oct. 1-5. And for the first time in their history, the Norfolk Admirals will host a pair of AHL preseason games at Scope Arena, taking on Philadelphia on Oct. 3-4.
Twenty-two of the 40 games on the AHL’s preseason schedule are set to be played at local community and neutral-site rinks. The 2008 preseason will also feature two National Hockey League games played in AHL arenas: the Phoenix Coyotes take on the Calgary Flames at the MTS Centre in Winnipeg on Sept. 24, and the Carolina Hurricanes battle the Philadelphia Flyers at the Wachovia Spectrum on Sept. 27. The Flyers will make one final visit to the Spectrum when they close the 2008 preseason with a game against their AHL affiliate, the Philadelphia Phantoms, on Oct. 7.
The American Hockey League’s 73rd regular season begins on Wed., Oct. 8, as 29 teams begin competition for the prestigious Calder Cup.
