SPRINGFIELD, Mass. … The American Hockey League announced today its composite 2013 preseason schedule, leading up to the start of the league’s 78th campaign.
The AHL enters the 2013-14 season with 30 teams – one for each affiliate in the National Hockey League – including two new clubs: the Iowa Wild and the Utica Comets. The preseason opens on Sept. 22 as the Comets, first-year affiliate of the NHL’s Vancouver Canucks, take on the Abbotsford Heat in Abbotsford, B.C.
In operation since 1936, the AHL continues to serve as the top development league for the players, coaches, managers, executives and broadcasters of all 30 National Hockey League teams. More than 87 percent of today’s NHL players are American Hockey League graduates, and for the 12th year in a row, more than 6 million fans attended AHL games across North America in 2012-13.
The AHL’s 2013-14 regular season begins on Fri., Oct. 4.
