Phantoms ink defenseman Samuelsson

The Lehigh Valley Phantoms have signed defenseman Philip Samuelsson to an AHL contract for the 2018-19 season.

Samuelsson, 27, led the entire AHL in plus/minus rating with a plus-44 mark last season, while posting four goals and 17 assists for 21 points in 76 games for the Charlotte Checkers.

Samuelsson enters his eighth professional season having skated in 445 regular-season games in the AHL with Charlotte, St. John’s, Springfield, Portland and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, totaling 23 goals and 113 assists for 136 points along with a cumulative plus-74 rating.

The native of Leksand, Sweden, has also appeared in 51 Calder Cup Playoff games, recording three goals and nine assists.

A second-round selection by the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2009, Samuelsson has played 13 NHL games with Pittsburgh and Arizona.
