Admirals ice Wolves in preseason opener

Milwaukee scored three times in the first period and Brian Finley stopped all 20 shots he faced as the Admirals took a 5-1 decision from Chicago in the preseason opener for both teams in Fond du Lac, Wis., on Tuesday night.

Tab Lardner, Vern Fiddler and Cam Severson staked the Admirals to a 3-0 lead less than 12 minutes into the contest. Jeremy Yablonski and J.C. Ruid also scored for Milwaukee.

Seamus Kotyk, who spent the last two seasons in Cleveland, relieved Finley at the midway point of the second period and finished with 15 saves. Kevin Doell spoiled Milwaukee’s shutout bid with 4:38 left in regulation.

Michael Garnett started in net for the Wolves and stopped 14 of 17 shots. He was replaced in the second half by Adam Berkhoel, who backstopped the U. of Denver to the NCAA championship in 2004. Berkhoel made 12 saves.

ALBANY 4, PHILADELPHIA 2
Aleksander Suglobov had a goal and two assists to lead Albany to a 4-2 win over Philadelphia in West Orange, N.J., on Tuesday afternoon.

Zach Parise and Aaron Voros broke a 2-all tie with third-period goals for the River Rats (2-1-0-0), who beat the Phantoms for the second time in four days.

Mathieu Brunelle and Ben Eager had the goals for Philadelphia (0-1-0-1).
